Well, it has been awhile. Let's try and get back on the blogging train....shall we? I'm going to make a huge effort to do a post every couple of days for the month of May. We've got a few things going on this month, so it's a great month to start sharing all the fun stuff we'll be doing!
So.
Let's start with some eggshells and some dirt. Add a few seeds and a pink princessy helper...and VOILA! We've got ourselves some plants started for the garden.
I found this idea in a magazine. Instead of buying pots to start seeds in, use eggshells. Then when the plants are ready to transplant, you just drop the whole thing, eggshell and all into the ground. Eggshell disintigrates eventually and plant just keeps on growing. Sounds good in theory, so we're going to give it a try.
First thing, get all those prepared eggs shells full of dirt. Ok, wait. Don princess gardening gloves, THEN fill eggshells full of dirt. Be sure to get dirt everywhere.
Second: get some commentary going on while the eggshells are being filled. Something about how this dirt might make good pies and cakes......Dessert anyone?
Third: after Lil'Miss fills all the shells move on to seeds.
Big concentration going on here. It's tough when mom says ONLY ONE SEED AT A TIME PLEASE! We planted some herbs - dill, sage, basil, chives. Then we planted some calendula flowers (left over from last year). We've also got ourselves some corn and we're just waiting now until we've got enough eggshells to plant pumpkins and cucumbers. Although we'd better 'get crackin' on that...or we'll run out of pre-seed time!!!!
Fourth: water all those little seeds. But not so much that those baby seeds try to float away.....please.
Anyhow, we'll keep you posted on what actually grows and what gets dumped out by prying, inquisitive fingers.......

Wow, those are some pretty special princess gloves! Curious to see how well this will work.

Maybe Lil' Miss need to learn by growing some of her own beans (wrap 'em in wet paper towel first so she can see them germinate).

Oh memories....
